Dabblers usually have little interest in learning basic skills, but instead just want to enjoy the sport as a recreational activity. They may be content with taking part in local league games or club fixtures and they certainly don't aspire to play at higher levels, especially if it means travelling long distances for games. Dabblers also typically don't join teams, since that would mean more commitment than they're willing to make, so their involvement is sporadic and limited. As such, dabblers are often known as "weekend warriors".

A dabblers love of his chosen game can never be questioned, although there will always be an element of wishful thinking about what he could do with a bit more practice (or if only he had some better kit). He might even fancy himself as a potential star, particularly when watching live matches on television or enjoying highlights packages from old European cup games. In fact, most dabblers know less about the finer points of football than other fans who spend much less time watching the sport – yet still feel perfectly entitled to criticise managers and players as well as pontificate on transfer policy!

As mentioned earlier——and I cannot stress this enough——there has been nothing wrong with being a dabbler down through history; indeed many famous figures throughout world history have been dabblers themselves! So if you take up the game simply because you like kicking a ball around, then there really shouldn't be anything to worry about. Just remember not to get too carried away with your own fantasies………

And now back to our regular schedule! :P
